the north fork

The North Fork Community Hub is the newest ministry of The Porch. Facilitated by K. B. Mahan, The North Fork is a safe place for compassion, companionship and care. We serve daily blue plate specials for 12, with both indoor seating and carry-out available. We also offer indoor and outdoor space for vendors and seasonal bounty. The North Fork is open Tuesday through Friday from 12 noon until 4:30pm, but after hours and weekends are also available for community use. We are located at 8824 Tazewell Pike in Corryton, Tennessee.

A safe space for community

In late 2019 a building in our community that had once housed a popular restaurant became vacant. More than six months later, the facility was still unoccupied. We began to sense a call to utilize the building to help meet needs in our local community. That is when we met K.B. Mahan. Almost immediately we realized that it was K.B. who truly carried the vision for this location and how it could minister to many of the needs that were present all around us.

After several meetings and much prayer, our board decided to lease the building and partner with K.B.’s vision and heart for the community. Since most of our revenue stream was already designated to the building of our ministry house, resources were somewhat scarce. Despite these challenges, the vision continued to miraculously unfold, and by faith we opened The North Fork ministry center on April 5, 2021. It functions as a ministry of The Porch and as an expression of our vision for Kingdom mobilization.

Our initial plan, under K.B.’s leadership, involves providing 12 meals four days a week to those in need in the local area. While that number may seem small, it will almost certainly expand, and we feel it is a great place to start so that folks will know we are here, that someone cares, and most of all that God’s love for them is a very present reality. The North Fork is open Tuesday through Friday from 12 noon until 4:30pm, and meals are served each day. Additionally, we are hosting other “community building” events in the evenings and on the weekends.
